~ Fafnir ~
For this new god of the Norse pantheon, my part was creating and weighting his face. His mustache was pretty troublesome in allowing a lot of expression with the controls, but I was satisfied with the result.

The second skin had a leaner build than the original god, and I created new controls for the shoulder pads which had a new shape to it. I had fun going back and forth with the modeler to get a shape for the helmet that would look convincing as well as not penetrate into his back in the animations.

This skin was an interesting challenge. Turning a dragon into a griffin was enjoyable, and thanks to the beak, I was able to free up some bones for the new feathers in the wingspan. Making it so the feathers would follow the wings and be animatable was a difficult at first. I ended up using a combination of a mesh constraint as well as orientation constraint between the individual wing bones.

The challenging aspect of this skin caught me off guard, and that was the general thickiness of this model as oposed to the skins that came before it. The animations were built for a stockier dragon, so the thinner mesh provided a challenge for amking the animations still work nicely.

~ Freya ~
This was my first God REDO that I built from scratch. This version of Freya had a taller build with longer legs. We wanted to reuse as many animations as possible with this new build, but there was no strict bone requirement. Essentially it was as if I was building her for the first time. Out of all the aspects of this build, the challenging part of this was getting the bust to move nicely with her armor. I was weighting both the base skin as well as Skin 4 at the same time, so I had to make the weights work with both.

Over all this skin for Freya was reletively fun to work on. The challenge wasn't so much on Freya, but rather her cape behind her and the tennis ball. On the base god, the cloak is made up of individual alpha cards weighted and animated to work like wings. With this new cload being a single mesh and a towel, I had tow carefully weight it, so it could ride the existing animations. The tennis ball is soft weighted so it can deform have a cartoony kind of movement whenever struck by the racquet.

Freya is always a joy to work on. For this skin, she mainly rode the existing rig. Due to this skin being a Sci-Fi space warrior, I wanted to create a way for the blade of her sword to be scaled away similar to how a energy blade would retract when not in use. I was very happy when tht was officially included.

I always like the sassy attitude that Freya has in her Victory animation. That is why I chose to show off this animation with this skin.

~ Ymir ~
Ymir was a fun and interesting challenge, though a simple one. The extent of new controls for this skin was for his top hat, cello and rose. I ws quite surprised that I was able to have everything else follow his existing rig. I was especially pleased with the end of his tail coat. It was once I started working on him that I realized he had a seperate rig entirelly for his Death animation.

For Ymir's death, the steps were a little backwards. After the main skin had already been rigged and weighted, I had to bake down the animation to get this pose for the model. Once that was done, I sent the posed model back to the modeler for him to break apart into smaller pieces. After it was broken and unwrapped, I rerigged the character to follow the new skeleton. Ymir's process is a fun was to break up the usual pipeline flow.

I chose this animation because out of all his skins, this is the only one that has an instrument and using an override control for the cello, it was rotated for the air guitar animation to make sense.

~ Odin ~
Odin was fun to work on, though the challeng for this skin came in attempting to rig it so there weould be minimal animation support. to accomplish this, I used an IK chain that will float on top of the body.

~ Fenrir ~
This was my first time working on Fenrir, but he is by far probably one of my favorites. Not really sure why, but I've always liked the design we have for this god. I was doubly excited for this skin since the source material for this skin theme is in my top 5 favorite video games. for this skin, it was a challenge to keep him under the bone limit of 75. I managed to do so be removing his snarl bones, which worked because the idea was for this skin to be less wild than his other ones. His fur was also a bit difficult to balance, but i'm pretty happy with the over all result.

Fenrir did have a custom animation for this skin, which i usually try to go with. However Fenrir has one of my absolute favorite dances in Smite, so I couldn't help but choose the Thriller dance to show off this rig.
